Still the standard against which all other virgin oak is measured, our prized French Oak.
French Oak Lumber from the Lorraine region of France boasts the wide grain patterns unique to the area’s mild winters, along with the exclusivity and assurance that comes with full certification from the mill itself. Wide plank floors are rooted in French culture and each plank resonates French elegance and history to create the most exquisite atmosphere in any environment.
These boards are sold unfinished with a planned surface, ready to lay. The french oak itself is full of variations and tonal contrasts which makes this product very easy to work with.
French Oak is typically light to dark brown in colour and is a particularly hard, strong, and heavy wood. One of the major benefits of French Oak is that it lends itself particularly well to finishing and doesn't expand and contract to any great extent. Used broadly across most types of furnishing, it is a sought after flooring option because it is so hard wearing as well as stunningly good looking. Because the sap wood in French Oak tress is relatively thin, you can typically expect to find long lengths and wide widths.
French Oak Lumber is usually finished with a natural oil finish. An oil finish penetrates the wood fibres to harden them while not altering the natural beauty of the wood. With no visible film on the surface, oiled floors are distinguishable by their Old World elegant patina. They are easy to care for and are repairable. An oiled floor never needs to be sanded, only regular applications of a maintenance oil are necessary to nourish the wood and bring the lustre back.
