Reclaimed French oak floor laid out across the Salvage Europe workshop floor
Our process

From reclaimed board to finished floor.

Every floor is selected, prepared, laid out and finished by hand in our Los Angeles shop.

Stacks of reclaimed French oak boards sorted for selection

Step one

Selected board by board

Our oak comes from old villas, barns and chateaus across France. We sort it by hand and keep only the premium timber, choosing each board for its grain, color and character.

Step two

Cleaned, de-nailed and milled

Old metal is removed and every board is cleaned. Our craftsmen restore and mill each piece, with a square edge or tongue and groove, while keeping the original face and patina intact.

Step three

Laid out across the shop floor

Before anything ships, we lay the whole floor out in our Los Angeles shop and match the boards for color, width and character, so it reads as one floor rather than a pile of boards.

Step four

Finished by hand

The floor is then finished by hand where it lies, so you can see exactly how it will look before it reaches your site.
