The Reclamation Process

The reclamation process

From old buildings to new homes.

Reclaimed wood has a hidden beauty. Our job is to bring it back to life, one step at a time.

Where it comes from

Salvaged from the source

Our oak, stone and terracotta come from villas, barns, chateaux and chapels across France and Europe that are no longer in use.

We reclaim materials slowly and carefully, by hand, so that what comes out of an old building is fit to go into a new one.

The process

How we reclaim

From the building it came out of to the floor it goes into.

Six steps

Every reclaimed piece goes through the same process before it reaches your project.

  • 01Salvage. We hand salvage the material from old structures and bring it to our central warehouse in France.
  • 02Clean and de-nail. We remove all metal, clean every piece and set aside anything that does not meet our standard.
  • 03Select and grade. Pieces are chosen for their character, sizing and condition, keeping only the premium quality timber, stone and terracotta.
  • 04Restore and re-mill. Expert craftsmen restore each plank before re-milling, then finish it with a square edge or tongue and groove.
  • 05Ship and inspect. We handle container packing, ocean freight and customs. In Los Angeles every piece is reinspected and any further processing is done by hand.
  • 06Lay out and finish. Floors are laid out at our shop and finished to your specification, then packed and labelled for delivery to site.
